Isaiah Shim

Demonstrating his prowess as both a classical pianist and conductor, Isaiah Shim has left his mark on stages across the United States and internationally in Australia, Italy, Korea, Mexico, Thailand, and the United Kingdom. He holds a deep passion for orchestral conducting and is currently under the mentorship of Marin Alsop at the Peabody Institute of The Johns Hopkins University. Alongside his academic pursuits, Isaiah serves as the assistant conductor for the Maryland Classic Youth Orchestras and Young Artists of America at Strathmore in Maryland. Prior to delving into conducting, he earned bachelor’s degrees in piano performance and music education from Wheaton College (IL), where he studied piano with Dr. Karin Redekopp Edwards and received guidance from Grace McFarlane.


Isaiah's musical journey encompasses valuable coaching from distinguished pianists Martin Canin, Natalya Antonova, and Bruce Brubaker. He has also enriched his skills through conducting masterclasses led by renowned figures such as John Nelson, Diane Wittry, and Maurice Peress. Beyond traditional performance, Isaiah's creativity shines through his passion for improvisation, arranging, and composition. His concerts are distinguished by innovative improvisations across diverse musical genres and thoughtful arrangements, highlighting the depth and versatility of his musical artistry.
